Kieran's Creation Space

Kieran (b. 1999) grew up in St. Paul, MN, where they grew to love art through the works of Jim Hodges and Maya Lin. They graduated from Whitman College in 2021 with a degree in Art and Chemistry. Initially, the art major was a way to diversify their classes and push their creativity, but as time moved, they saw it as an integral part of their learning. Practicing both art and science showed them the similarities in experimentation, creation, and meaning-making.

In 2022, they started a Ph.D. program at Portland State University in Chemistry, where they research conservation science. In conservation science, they get to explore art and artifacts through a scientific and anthropological lens to better understand the piece and the people connected to it. Currently, they are analyzing glass bottles/vases encased in woven basketry, created in the late 19th/ early 20th c. by members of the Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes.

In the art realm, they are mostly refining their sewing skills through paper piecing and altering. But! Will hopefully continue sculptural making shortly, either digitally or physically.
